Brittany Murphy, Actress, Dies at 32 She's my age!! :O

Sad. I've always liked her from when I obsessively watched Clueless umpteen times many, many years ago. I've been meaning to watch The Ramen Girl... I'll move it to the top of my list.

- - -

Aw, I also feel bad for the recent X-Factor winner, Joe McElderry, who didn't reach #1 on the UK charts because of some douches on Facebook and a lot of dumb sheep. Joe's a talented sweetie (and a little too suspiciously soft) and his moment shouldnt've have been hijacked by mean-spirited people who have it in for Simon Cowell.

I've had to stop playing Robo Defense on my phone. Twice I dreamed about playing it, quite vividly, and they weren't pleasant, probably because I seemed to be quite worked up about the strategizing. In 5 years I've never dreamt about WoW - well maybe once or twice, I don't recall. Usually I think of WoW to fall asleep, in fact - my runs for the day and how they went.

The latest WoW patch has certainly made quite a big impact on gameplay, now that you can get party members for dungeons from other servers. I've found that more often than not, those random people are better players than my guild's members. :-x Besides, if they suck, I can always just walk away, which I can't do with a guild run especially now that I'm an officer. It takes all my control not to snap at guildies for doing stupid things or being inept.

Last night I intended to do a quick guild run before bed but then two of the group had to do the dungeon prior so that they could go into the one I wanted, and I thought that since it was a fast one, I might as well. Wipe after wipe. One didn't know the run, one was undergeared, one kept chatting and dying, and the other was a fellow officer so I couldn't get away with being rude or leaving the group. Went to bed almost 2 hours after my hoped-for bedtime.

Yea, I might still have to be nice to my guildies but I sure ain't gonna run with them again. :-x

Santa, that's my only wish this year.

Thank goodness I am covered by leave, work, leave, public hol, weekend, weekend, weekend, leave, work, leave, leave, public holiday, weekend, weekend for the rest of the year. It has been nothing but excruciating to work work work like a slogged cow for the... you know what.

But the weird part is whenever I go on leave, I will find myself stranded with nothing to do at home- other than the internet which is utterly boring. Such mundane life of visiting Granny in the temple, swimming, rollerblading and shopping, okay, it's way better to be in camp slogging for the... you know what again.

Back to the topic, my only wish this year is that granny will be happy wherever she is, and may she bless all who misses her so badly.

Wowszer note tags. I should get these for my female frens and clients. Maybe the very gay ones too. Hehe.

Hana Fusen Note Tags: Each petal of the flower peels off to make a note tag just like the rhyme “he loves me, he loves me not.” Place a “bouquet” in your pen stand or a glass and use the petals for bookmarks and labels.

And to prove my last point of my last post, I found out that the salary she's drawing from the company is more than mine. :-x

The Screen Actors Guild nominations.

Nuts. There are a few movies that I don't want to watch - The Blind Side, The Messenger, The Lovely Bones - but I guess I'll have to.

Now Mariah Carey has a SAG nom. :o

Glee got screwed with only one nom - ensemble - though I guess it's apropos.

Oscar nominations will be out on Feb 2. Goody. I've more than a month to watch as many of these movies as I can before I predict the noms.

Some new stuff with Livejournal:

If you're a LJ user, you can check out who's been visiting your blog.

If you're a paid LJ user, you can check out your blog's statistics, e.g. how many people's been viewing your journal, either through your site or through their Friends pages, though I guess with the latter, you never know if they just bypass your entry, which might explain the my bloated number of 4743 page views in November.

And if you're not a paid user, I can send you a $10 coupon towards your subscription if you want:

We're delighted to tell you about our holiday coupons, which will help you share the love with your LiveJournal friends! If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can send up to 10 LiveJournal Basic/Plus users a $10 coupon for an annual paid subscription now through January 15th, 2011. Recipients can upgrade for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25). Please note that these coupons are not transferable and cannot be used to renew existing paid accounts.

Blargh. Getting back into gymming gets harder and harder as I get older. Aging and gymming is like climbing a freakin' mountain. The best thing would be to never take breaks from gymming but something always, inevitably comes up... vacation... flu... flu again.

- - -

On the subject of flu, here's a study that'll make you more paranoid about touching random stuff.

Ooo, I just noticed the Picturehouse @ Cathay is screening some old Studio Ghibli movies. Bah, the two Hayao Miyazaki's I'd watch again aren't there; wonder if I missed them (Spirited Away & Howl's Moving Castle). If you're in a mood for one of the saddest movies ever (and one of the best animes ever), watch Tombstone For Fireflies (actually Grave of the Fireflies) on 19 Dec '09, 7:30pm. I'd like to but I can't bring myself to. Gah, just thinking about it makes me sad.

Cheating in SAF contest

Lol, I was in this unit for a few months before I was re-posted after my signals course. Glad I left; it wasn't very pleasant there.

The OL's ho has asked me for some administrative favors recently. Not that I mind - she's always been nice to me despite the trouble she's caused in the office. I guess we're both savvy enough to know to be nice to each other to stay on the OL's good side, even though I'm sure she could get away with treating me like crap if she wanted to. What's a grandson compared to a saucy ho?

It's funny. Last Friday I had to call up one of the OL's tenants who hadn't paid two months' of rent. He had been late before and the OL had had to cut off his water once. So when I called him up, I told him very nicely that he was late again and my boss is threatening to cut off his water so I hoped he would be able to pay the rent soon. I was very polite and non-aggressive and he said he'd call me back on Monday. But yesterday he emails my colleague to tell her that he's paid (just one month) but that he doesn't want to talk to me. I've no idea why. Maybe despite my tone my words sounded like a threat.

Twittering as Blogging

Irks the heck out of me.

The tweets are mostly too random or too summarized to make sense but they always catch my eye and I read them and get annoyed that I keep getting suckered into reading stuff that make no sense.

I'm gonna have to remove the two of you as Friends.

It's not you; it's me. :-P

Houston Is Largest City to Elect Openly Gay Mayor

Houston, of all places. I guess it's one of the most liberal of Texas cities.

My water heater finally got fixed, after a few months of cold showers. Now I can take having hot water for granted again.

My mom's taking a trip to KL with my sis from Tuesday to Sunday to watch some bowling tournament thing. Yay, quiet time at home again!

Speaking of KL, the OL has had an apartment empty there for a while now and the Head of Accounts actually jokingly mentioned that I should take a trip out there to look at it. Well it would be fun to head up there but I can't really think of a good and real excuse to tell the OL (especially if I want to take work days off for it). It's not like I'm the real estate agent and need to see the place to know how to market it.

I can't believe how many people don't pay their rent. Honestly, these are upper-scale apartments that are rented out mainly to expats so it's not like these people are so broke that they can't afford to pay. They just... don't pay and we have to issue threats and get the agents to harass them. One guy had his water cut off before he paid and now he's not paying again. It's mostly the Asian expats I find - a Korean and various Muslims. The white guys are almost always prompt. Must be a cultural thing.

Oh hello, this is the first spelling error I've ever noticed in The New York Times (they misspelled a "Blu-ray").

Johnson & Johnson has developed Priligy, a pill aimed at men who ejaculate before copulating or within seconds of beginning.

It's just a 2-minute increase in duration so I doubt there'll be a potential for abuse.

I was hoping not to have to watch The Hurt Locker but now I guess I really should. It looks like one of those movies that should come with a motion sickness advisory warning. I really ought to start a website that provides those; I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a headache from handicam movies.

I went to the gym yesterday half expecting to have a flu relapse today but I appear fine. I didn't push myself too hard but my usual thinking is if I'm gonna head all the way down to the gym and back, I'm not gonna do some wimpy workout. All or nothing.

Blah, I have to catch up to where I was before I left for my vacation. That's the biggest pain about gymming. Slack off a bit and you'll have to catch up after. Two steps forward, one step back. At least I haven't put back on too much weight yet. I can tell because this pair of slacks is still loose. :-x
